Nirvana - Nirvana

Nirvana was the third Nirvana album to be released following the death of singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain in April 1994, and the first to feature studio material. It contains the previously unreleased "You Know You're Right," a song recorded during the band's final studio session on January 30, 1994. The album also includes a brief selection of the band's more popular songs, culled mostly from 1991's Nevermind and 1993's In Utero, but also containing three pre-Nevermind songs and two recorded during the band's MTV Unplugged set in late 1993. Nirvana opened at #3 on the Billboard 200. The album has sold millions of copies worldwide.

Clay Aiken - On My Way Here (2008)

Since shooting to stardom on the second season of American Idol, Clay Aiken, the Raleigh, NC, native with the powerhouse voice has become a international pop phenomenon who has sold six million albums. In addition, Aiken has launched eight live tours, made the New York Times best-seller list, and won several American Music and Billboard Music Awards. In January 2008, Aiken made his Broadway debut in the Tony Award-winning musical Monty Python's Spamalot.

When Clay began the search for songs to record for Aiken's first album of original material since his 2003 chart-topping debut Measure of A Man, he fell in love with a song written by OneRepublic front man Ryan "Alias" Tedder called "On My Way Here." The message of the lyrics -- how the lessons we learn while growing up shape us into who we become as adults -- struck such a deep chord with Aiken that it wound up inspiring the theme (and title) of his new collection.

To musically represent the album's lyrical theme, Aiken and Foster enlisted Grammy-Award winning British songwriter and producer Kipper, who has worked with Sting, Chris Botti, and Julia Fordham.

Jennifer Paige - Best Kept Secret

Jennifer Paige was born into a musical family in Marietta, Georgia, just outside Atlanta. She began singing at the age of five at local coffeehouses and restaurants with her older brother Chance Scoggins. She continued to Pebblebrook High School to study dance, voice, and performing arts.
At the age 17 she relocated to Los Angeles and toured the country with a top 40 covers act, Joe's Band. In August 1996, she performed in front of 50,000 people at the Olympic Games in her hometown, Atlanta. The same year, Paige teamed up with producer Andy Goldmark. They began with a dance version of Aretha Franklin's classic, Chain of Fools. The record instantly came to the attention of the German indie label Edel Records, whose president, Jonathan First, was searching for a fresh-faced pop act to establish overseas presence. He was so impressed by Paige's talent that he flew to Los Angeles and gave her a record contract

Avenged Sevenfold - Sound the Seventh Trumpet (2001)

Sounding the Seventh Trumpet is the first full length album from American metal band Avenged Sevenfold. After it was released in 2001 on Good Life Recordings, it was re-released by Hopeless Records on March 19, 2002. It featured slightly different cover art (the original didn't have the title on the cover, while the re-issue did). The re-release featured a track formerly on the Warmness on the Soul EP, "To End the Rapture (Heavy Metal Version)", which was the only track on the album to feature new guitarist at the time, Synyster Gates.

Bruce Springsteen - Born In The USA 1984

Bruce Springsteen had become increasingly downcast as a songwriter during his recording career, and his pessimism
bottomed out with Nebraska. But Born in the U.S.A., his popular triumph, which threw off seven Top Ten hits and
became one of the best-selling albums of all time, trafficked in much the same struggle, albeit set to galloping
rhythms and set off by chiming guitars. That the witless wonders of the Reagan regime attempted to co-opt the title
track as an election-year campaign song wasn't so surprising: the verses described the disenfranchisement of a lower
-class Vietnam vet, and the chorus was intended to be angry, but it came off as anthemic. Then, too, Springsteen had
softened his message with nostalgia and sentimentality, and those are always crowd-pleasers. "Glory Days" may have
employed Springsteen's trademark disaffection, yet it came across as a couch potato's drunken lament. But more than
anything else, Born in the U.S.A. marked the first time that Springsteen's characters really seemed to relish the fight
and to have something to fight for. They were not defeated ("No Surrender"), and they had friendship ("Bobby Jean")
and family ("My Hometown") to defend. The restless hero of "Dancing in the Dark" even pledged himself in the face of
futility, and for Springsteen, that was a step. The "romantic young boys" of his first two albums, chastened by "the
working life" encountered on his third, fourth, and fifth albums and having faced the despair of his sixth, were still
alive on this, his seventh, with their sense of humor and their determination intact. Born in the U.S.A. was their
apotheosis, the place where they renewed their commitment and where Springsteen remembered that he was a rock
& roll star, which is how a vastly increased public was happy to treat him.

John Lennon - Walls And Bridges 1974

Walls and Bridges was recorded during John Lennon's infamous "lost weekend," as he exiled himself in California
during a separation from Yoko Ono. Lennon's personal life was scattered, so it isn't surprising that Walls and Bridges
is a mess itself, containing equal amounts of brilliance and nonsense. Falling between the two extremes was the
bouncy Elton John duet "Whatever Gets You Thru the Night," which was Lennon's first solo number one hit. Its bright,
sunny surface was replicated throughout the record, particularly on middling rockers like "What You Got" but also on
enjoyable pop songs like "Old Dirt Road." However, the best moments on Walls and Bridges come when Lennon is
more open with his emotions, like on "Going Down on Love," "Steel and Glass," and the beautiful, soaring "#9
Dream." Even with such fine moments, the album is decidedly uneven, containing too much mediocre material like
"Beef Jerky" and "Ya Ya," which are weighed down by weak melodies and heavy over-production. It wasn't a
particularly graceful way to enter retirement.

Joe Satriani - Not of This Earth

Not of This Earth was Joe Satriani’s debut album and wow. This is an eclectic collection of songs. Since Satch didn’t have a ton of money to make this recording the songs have simple drums/percussion and he plays bass on the tracks as well as the guitar.I don’t think that those two things make a difference. This is simply one of the greatest debut albums by anybody period. The title track is simplistic but it is a good introduction to a guitarist with his own style.”The Headless Horseman” is a technique driven tune but it is also a lot of fun. One can picture the title character riding through the night creating mayhem. “Rubina” is dedicated to his wife and contains a great use of mood in the intro, a nice melody and one of the most emotional solos ever recorded. “The Snake” is Satch at his funky best. “Driving at Night” is the tune that, even if you didn’t know the title of the song, would be the one to listen to on the expressway. Joe shows that he is an artist by painting a musical picture of pounding the pedal to the floor. He does break out some blinding licks but the song isn’t about technique it is all about creating a picture through sound. This is one of Joe’s best songs and it is dissapointing that he hasn’t played it live since the first tour.”The Enigmatic” is named after the mode that it uses. Joe sounds like Holdsworth at times but he does add his own flavor to the legato laced tune. This is one of Joe’s wildest creations. This disc shows how music can give mental pictures from the audio. Joe is an artist in every sense of the word on this Cd and any guitarist or musician that doesn’t own it should buy it immediately.

Joe Satriani - Flying in a Blue Dream

Guitar god Satriani’s 1989 release “Flying in a Blue Dream” is just outstanding.
He just rocks from the beginning to the end of the disc.
From the opening number, the title track “Flying in a Blue Dream” to the final track “Into the Light” this is a well-balanced recording.
This is his first venture into singing. “Can’t Slow Down”, “Big Bad Moon” and the hit “I Believe” are all Satriani on vocals and he doesn’t do too bad of a job. I missed this disc when it first came out and I just picked it up at the local music store and I’m glad I did. Check this classic out.

Joe Satriani Engines of Creation

A little cynicism is to be expected when a veteran guitar virtuoso jumps on the electronica bandwagon. But Joe Satriani, who takes that route with Engines of Creation, remains head and shoulders above most guitar gods through sheer good taste. Most of Engines is very good, and Satriani deserves credit at the very least for daring and inventiveness. However, its appeal will likely be largely limited to Satriani fans; it’s difficult to imagine hardcore electronica heads getting down to this sort of thing, although the final two tracks consist of great chill music. Satriani makes effective use of the flexibility inherent in the genre’s repetitiveness: often, he just lets the backing tracks play and solos over them, coming up with some truly otherworldly sonic exploration
